Description	:	Quincy I. Rice, 78 of Delta died July 18, 1990 at University Hospital in Iowa City. He was born on August 15, 1911 in Cherokee, Okla. to Clarence and Garnet Lauer Rice. He married Gertrude Merryfield on May 23, 1936 in Hedrick. She died December 11, 1989. He graduated from Delta High School in 1927 and taught in rural schools. He worked at Maplecrest Turkey Plant in Wellman, farmed south of Delta from 1946-1965 and was U.S. Postmaster of Delta from 1965-1984. He was born on August 15, 1911 in Cherokee, Okla. to Clarence and Garnet Lauer Rice. He married Gertrude Merryfield on May 23, 1936 in Hedrick. She died December 11, 1989. He was a member and Elder of the Delta Christian Church, the Clubb-Shipley American Legion Post #485 of Delta, former treasurer of the Keokuk County Red Cross, a member of the Keokuk County Democratic Organization, a former Boy Scout Leader, worked with the Delta Town and Country and played harmonica for many rest homes, celebrations and other programs. He is survived by a son, Merrill of Kansas City, MO.; four daughters, Mrs. Leon (Laurel) Streigle of Delta, Mrs. Ralph (Joan) Lopez of Marietta, Georgia; June Rice of Delta and Loretta Rice of Oskaloosa; twelve grandchildren; five great granddaughters and a brother Glenys Rice of Hedrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gertrude; a daughter, Jane Anne who died in 1944; two grandsons, Lyle and David Streigle; a brother, Gerald Rice and sister Wyvetta Hoover.
