A funeral was Monday, March 16 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma wth Rev. Dennis Dorsheimer of the Jackson Church of Christ in Montezuma. Musical selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset." Members of the Lafayette Lodge No. 52 AF & AM were present for the services. Interment was at Garrett Cemetery in Delta. R.E. was born August 30, 1906 at home near What Cheer, the son of Art Thomas and Cora (King) Grubb. He graduated from What Cheer High School in 1924. On April 27, 1929 he was united n marriage with Virgil Bernice Garrett in Oskaloosa. They lived in Newton for a short time before moving to Virgil's grandparents' farm near Delta, where they lived for three-and-one-half-years. They farmed near What Cheer for eight years before moving to their farm southeast of Barnes City. They were members of the Indianapolis Christian and What Cheer Christian Church, were R.E. served as an Elder and a Deacon. He was also a 4-H leader and involved with the county 4-H as well. He was active in Farm Bureau and served on the board. He served several years on the Pleasant Grove Election Board. R.E. was a 50 plus member of both the Eastern Star and a Past Master of Masons. He was currently a member of Lafayette Chapter No. 232 O.E.S. and Lafayette Lodge No. 52 A.F. and A.M. both of Montezuma. The couple retired in 1978 and moved to Montezuma in 1981. They transferred their church membership to the Montezuma Christian Church. Virgil died July 27, 1997. R.E. has been a resident of the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since May 15, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a stillborn son, Larry Fayal on July 3, 1930; a grandson Jeffery Grubb; a sister, Zola Kapple; a brother, Thomas Grubb. He is survived by his two children and their spouses; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two siblings and other relatives and many friends.
