Description	:	Racheal Mageline Helms, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula. Racheal was born Aug. 4, 1912, to Sarah and William Snyder, the youngest of 10 children. At a very early age, her family moved to Shawmut and in 1927 to Eureka. Read More	Racheal Mageline Helms, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula. Racheal was born Aug. 4, 1912, to Sarah and William Snyder, the youngest of 10 children. At a very early age, her family moved to Shawmut and in 1927 to Eureka. Upon graduation from Lincoln County High School in 1930, Racheal taught rural grade schools in Shawmut and Eureka under a special teacher's permit issued by the state of Montana. On Feb. 9, 1933, Racheal and Hubert Helms were married in Eureka. For the next 25 years they farmed and ranched in the Eureka area until Hubert passed away on Dec. 23, 1958. After selling the ranch, livestock and machinery, Racheal remained in the Eureka area doing substitute teaching and bookkeeping until beginning a career as remedial reading teacher in the Forest Service Job Corps program in January of 1966. Her first assignment was at the Cottonwood Center in Idaho. When that center closed in May of 1974, Racheal transferred to the Trapper Creek Center near Darby. She retired from there in January of 1980. During her Job Corps teaching career, Racheal received several national awards for her work in the remedial reading program. She maintained her home in Hamilton until moving to Grizzly Peak Retirement Center in Missoula in October of 1999. Poor health forced her to relocate to Village Health Care Center in January of 2007. Racheal was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; an older sister, Elsie Helms of Eureka; and several nieces and nephews.
