Description	:	Rachel VeVerka (Died January 31, 2010) Rachel VeVerka, 94 of Montezuma passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Rachel Bertha VeVerka, daughter of Robert and Sarah (Johnston) Hicks was born on April 20, 1915 in Montezuma. She was a 1934 graduate of Montezuma High School. On February 23, 1938, she was united in marriage to Sylvan Eldred VeVerka in Montezuma. Together they farmed the Hicks family farm near Montezuma. She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Poweshiek County Farm Bureau and Order of the Eastern Star. Rachel also served as a 4-H Leader, was very active in the Republican party and was one of the original members of the Poweshiek County Zoning Commission. She was an excellent gardener, seamstress and cook. She is survived by her three children and their spouses; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and a nephew. Rachel was preceded death by her parents, her husband, Sylvan VeVerka, two granddaughters, Ramona and Rebecca Haworth. Taken from Holland-Coble Funeral Home web site. Montezuma
