Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Baptist Home Chapel, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the Baptist Home Chapel. Rachel Carol Helen Unzelman was born June 8, 1902, in Madison, S.D. to Johann C. "Johnnie" and Emma (Biederstaedt) Unzelman. She was raised and educated in Madison, S.D., and graduated from Madison Normal College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. The family moved to Pierre, S.D., where she worked for the state of South Dakota for several years until her marriage. She married Eric C. Jacobsen on June 19, 1933, in Phillip, S.D., moving to North Dakota and settling in Bismarck in 1935. Eric died in 1965. Later, she was employed by the city of Bismarck, N.D.E.A., State Department of Public Instruction, Secretary to Governor Moses, and was secretary to the State Board of Higher Education for many years. She worked for the N.D. Social Services until her retirement in 1967. After her retirement, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, caring for her beloved cats, and visits with her many grandchildren. She entered the Baptist Home in 1995. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John L. and Jean Jacobsen, Bismarck, Dr. Thomas E. and Joann Jacobsen, Hettinger; and one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Herman Job, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Karen and Don Schatz, Lynda Becker, Fawn Lipke, Jenny and Jay Holweger, Patty and Chad Jacobson, all of Bismarck, Brian J. Jacobsen, Fargo, Glenn D. and Laura Jacobsen, Salt Lake City, Kirsten and Kevin Howe, Mt. Prospect, Ill., Chris J. and Theresa Jacobsen, Grand Forks; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric; her parents; one brother, Ray; and two sisters, Gladys Unzelman and Irene Hengel. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Baptist Home.
