She married George W Rosa on April 12, 1877 in Greene Co, IA. They were the parents of Mattie (1877-1903, Benjamin Hurley), Elmer (1880), Homer (1891-1903), and Charles (1883). Jefferson Bee - Wednesday , December 29th, 1926 - Rachel Elizabeth Pyles, daughter of John and Mary F. (Miller) Pyles, who came with their parents from Indiana in 1855 and were the first couple married in Kendrick township. She was born in Kendrick township, Greene county, Iowa, Nov. 23, 1857, and died at her home Dec. 18, at 7 o'clock in the morning, aged 69 years 25 days. Mrs. Rosa resided all her life near the place where she was born in Kendrick township, with the exception of a portion of each year for the past twenty-five years, which she had spent assisting the Mission Workers of the Olive Branch Mission in Chicago and the Woodstock Orphanage at Woodstock, Illinois. Rachel Pyles was married April 12, 1877, to George W. Rosa, a native of Ohio, who came to Iowa in 1868. At an early age she was converted under the ministry of the Rev. D.G. Shepard, a pioneer Free Methodist minister. One daughter and two sons preceded her to the Great Beyond, Mattie Hurley, who died in March, 1903; Elmer, who died in Nov. 1903, and Homer, who died in January, 1903. There remains to mourn her loss, the husband, George W. Rosa; a stepfather, Scott Barber, of Scranton; one son, Charles; five grandchildren, Attorney George O. Hurley, Peoria, Il.; Glen, Helen, Florence and Russell Rosa, all of Kendrick township, two great grandchildren, Dorothy and Homer, daughter and son of Glen Rosa; two sisters and one brother, Eva F. Williams, Kansas City, Mo., Nancy Jane Jenks, Scranton, Floyd M. Pyles, San Diego, Calif.; one halfsister and brother, Mrs. Ella Sexton, Garden Grove, Calif.; Russell R. Barber, Minneapolis, and one-half brother, Jarvis Barber, deceased. The funeral was conducted from her late home Dec 21, at 1:30 p.m., by her neighbor Rev. R.T. Smith, American Sunday School Union missionarywith interment at the Dillavou cemetery, by the following pallbearers: Chas. Bryant, W.M. Jordan, Mort Brown, George White, Wood Trafford and Chas.
