Description	:	Rachel Madeline Griffin Borland, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends on March 8, 2012 at Duke Medical Center after a brief illness. Madeline was born July 2, 1923 in Hillsborough, NC to the late Dallas Edward and Ruby King Griffin. She is survived by one son, Russell Borland and wife LaRue; two daughters, Donna Silva and husband Andy and Martha Kay Hall and husband Tom. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian Silva and wife Lisa and Kevin Silva and wife Heather, Megan Borland Eargle and husband Adam, and Eric Hall; two great-grandchildren, Emma Elizabeth... Madeline was born July 2, 1923 in Hillsborough, NC to the late Dallas Edward and Ruby King Griffin. She is survived by one son, Russell Borland and wife LaRue; two daughters, Donna Silva and husband Andy and Martha Kay Hall and husband Tom. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian Silva and wife Lisa and Kevin Silva and wife Heather, Megan Borland Eargle and husband Adam, and Eric Hall; two great-grandchildren, Emma Elizabeth Silva and James Alexander Silva; her two brothers, Wade Griffin and wife Frances and Victor Griffin and wife Marilyn; and numerous dear nephews and nieces. Nana, as she was fondly known, was most often found in her kitchen preparing delicious meals for her family. She was a loving caregiver to all and will be remembered for her devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was to provide for the needs of each grandchild. She was a talented seamstress and spent many days at her sewing machine designing. Madeline was often seen working in her garden and flowers. Many of which she shared with her friends and family. She retired after many years with the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. Madeline was one of the first women rural carriers in Durham. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, James Alexander Borland. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church by Rev. Rich Goodier.
