Description	:	Rachel Nafts Karst Hofferber, 96 years old, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at a Great Falls, Mont., care facility. She was born to William and Elizabeth Schleining Nafts on Dec. 31, 1916. She received her education on the Huntley Project, graduating from high school in 1934. On Dec. 6, 1936, she married Izzie Karst. They lived in Ballantine, and then in Billings. Of this union, there were four children born. Mr. Karst passed away in December of 1977. She was born to William and Elizabeth Schleining Nafts on Dec. 31, 1916. She received her education on the Huntley Project, graduating from high school in 1934. On Dec. 6, 1936, she married Izzie Karst. They lived in Ballantine, and then in Billings. Of this union, there were four children born. Mr. Karst passed away in December of 1977. In 1982, she was wed to Rhienhart Hofferber. He passed away in July of 2000. She was active in Pilgrim Congregational Church and a member of the Retired Senior Citizen Volunteer program in Billings, until she was unable to care for herself and admitted to a care facility in Great Falls. She enjoyed yard work, crosswords, camping, fishing, and especially spending time with her family. She really enjoyed a good game of Scrabble or Cribbage, being very competitive. Rachel is survived by two sons and two daughters, Allen Karst (Hazel Jean), of Virginia Beach, Kenneth Karst (Virginia) of Puyallup, Wash., Joyce Kunz of Seattle, Wash., and Nancy Davis (Jim) of Great Falls, Mont.; one stepdaughter, Elaine Perko; one stepson, Ronald Hofferber; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Services will be held at Pilgrim Congregational Church on Friday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Smith Downtown Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
