Description	:	6 November 1914 Evening Journal RACHEL PUTMAN GAMON was born in the state of Virginia, September 11, 1844. She came to Iowa when she was nine years old and made her home in Washington County ever since. She and William Gammon (Gamon) were married in 1867, and to this union seven children were born, six daughters and one son. Two daughters, Hannah Belle and Mary Ann preceded the parents in death. Gammon (Gamon), all of Washington, Iowa and all of whom were at her bedside 8: the time of her death which occurred at ll:5O PM Monday night, November 2, l914. All of the grandchildren except two were also present at the time she passed away. ~ Mrs. Gamon was strongly and affectionatlty attached to all her grandchildren. She united with the church over twenty years ago. She was constant and regular in her attendance upon the services of the Lord's house. We shall remember her as a very affectionate mother, a kind neighbor, and a true friend. She was very much interested in the repair work on the church building and was_not permitted to be present at its re-dedication, an occurrence we all regret. While we must say farewell to their mother, neighbor and friend, we shall sorrow not as those without hope. Her funeral service was held in the Pleasant Hill church Wednesday, November 4 at 2 o'clock, the regular pastor B. W. Pettit was in char e of the service, assisted by the Rev. S. K. Coates of Washington. A very large concourse of sympathizing neighbors and friends were present to pay e last sad tribute of respect to the memory of this splendid Christian woman. Her body was laid to rest by the side of her husband, both in the Pleasant Hill cemetery where together they will await the general resurrection at the last day. Blessings on their memories. Rachel Putman was the daughter of Jacob and Ellen Edmundson Putmen. Her brothers were Jacob, John, Thomas, and Charles. Sisters, Mrs. Hannah Shrader, Mrs.Ellen H. Kuhn. Stacie and Sarah Putman died in infancy.
