Read More	Rachel Sarah NICHOLAS was the fifth of six children born to Henry Nicholas and Mary Ann Beavan, Welsh immigrants Pembrokshire, Wales. . Rachel Sarah Nicholas was born in Pembrokshire, Wales, July 4, 1866, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bessie Minnis, Tuesday morning, July 13, 1937 in Riceville, Iowa. . While she was still an infant her parents, Henry Nicholas and Mary (Beavan) Nicholas came to the US and settled near Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois, living there until she was about 9 years old when the family moved again; this time to by covered wagon to Mitchell County, Iowa. For a short time they lived in Brownville, IA and then moved to a farm north of David, IA (defunct town) where she spent her girlhood. When Rachel was about 14 years old, she became a Christian and united with the Methodist church at Stacyville. Later, she was one of the charter members of the David, IA (Baptist) church, and when the family came to Riceville, about 1921, she united with the Baptist church. On December 11, 1889 in a double ring ceremony, Rachel Nicholas married William James Graves and William's sister, Martha Graves, married Richard Hill. Rachel's brother,James Nicholas, and her sister Bessie Nicholas were witnesses for both of these marriages. Rachel Sarah Nicholas and William James Graves' Four children: 1. Bessie Graves Minnis b. 1891- 1972 married Hugh Roger Minnis . Profession: Farming outside of Riceville, Iowa. 2. Galen William Graves b. 1895- 1965 m. Mary Ellen McKinny 3. Mabel Glee Graves Banks b. 1905- 1998 Harlan, Iowa, m. Rollin T. Banks. lived in Ottumwa, IA (3 children: Wilson Palmer m. Sylvia McDonough 3 children; Miriam Glee m. Gene A Kamp 3 ch; Gordon Galen m. Arlene Cromwell 3 ch.) 4. Maria Inez Graves 1908- 1996 m. Leonard A. Wilkes lived in Waterloo, Iowa. His profession: Research and Development Engineer for John Deere Tractor. Beside the husband and children, she is survived by eleven grandchildren, and one brother, Mr. John Nicholas of McIntire. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church and burial was made in Riverside cemetery in Riceville, IA
