Read More	Rachel Smith Mosher Smith Rachel was born in 1875* in Torbrook, Annapolis County, where her family was working on a farm for the summer. The birth of her siblings is recorded in Ohio, Lunenburg County (an area now known as Simpsons Corner) and in Hemford, Lunenburg County, as her family owned land in Lunenburg County, but went to the Valley several summers to work. Rachel married George William Mosher after George's first wife Melissa Fancy died. Rachel and George were married on Nov 17, 1894 in Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Together, Rachel and George had three children: Lucy, George, and Grace. In 1902 or 1903, George moved the family to the United States. After a few years there, Rachel left George and returned to Nova Scotia. She returned to Nineveh and married Lemuel Smith on Feb 7, 1907 in Lunenburg, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Rachel and Lemuel had at least six children together and lived on a farm in Niveveh until Lemuel was killed in 1931. Shortly after Lemuel's death, Rachel and two of her sons moved to New Brunswick and she was living with her son Dunnie in Saint Stephens for a time before her death in 1969.** The family records are not precise and, in the case of her brother George Edward Smith, the dates on the gravestone do not match the Census records. For her other brother, Joseph Gates Smith, one record states that he was born in Torbrook in 1878 and another that he was born in Hemford in 1879. However, it is clear that Rachel was born in Torbrook in 1875 and is buried in Saint Stephens, New Brunswick. *There exists a copy of a newspaper article with a handwritten date of 1969 (see photo at left), which has been used as the date of death. The article claims that a 100 year old woman has died, but the given age is incorrect. If Rachel had been aged 100 in 1969, then she would have been born in 1869, but it was her sister Druscilla who was born in 1869 (born Sept 28, 1869 in Ohio, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia). It's possible that her family confused Rachel's birth year with that of Druscilla, and that is likely the reason that the articles recognizes her as a "100-year-old woman." The handwritten year of death appears agrees with the date of death recorded for a Rachel Smith in Massachusetts. See photo attached. Also in the article it states that Rachel is survived by her son George Mosher, and her son George died September 16, 1970 (the following year).
