Rae Giles Erickson,a longtime resident of the Tangent, Alberta, area, passed away peacefully at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the age of 92 years. He was born May 14, 1921 at Travers, Alberta. After serving in the RCAF during WWII, he moved to Rocky Mountain House, then to Tangent, Alberta in 1951, where he farmed until retiring in 1993. He moved to Rocky Mountain House until 2009, then moved to Grande Prairie. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Margaret in 2002, a brother, Bernard in 2011 and a sister Eileen in 2012. He is survived by his son Walter (Janice) of Calgary, daughter Marilyn (Wayne) Thornton of Airdire, daughter Sandy (Dave) Plummer of Grande Prairie; grandchildren: Melanie Erickson, Sheena Thornton (Chris Savels), Brad Thornton, Stephanie Plummer (MacKenzie Colombe) and Kaylee Plummer. He is also survived by a sister Mildred Byquist of Winnipeg, brother Stan (Marlene) Erickson of Grande Prairie; many nephews, nieces, in-laws and cousins. Throughout his life he was involved with many service and community groups, most notably the Royal Canadian Legion, the Alberta Wheat Pool, Unifarm, the Alberta Livestock Co-op, Tangent Board of trade and the Fairview College Board of Directors. He was an avid baseball player and coach, a curler and in his later years a golfer and fisherman. He travelled extensively throughout Canada and the USA, to the Caribbean and Australia. His greatest love and concern was for his immediate and extended family. He will be greatly missed by them and all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 1:00pm at Christian Fellowship Assembly in Grande Prairie (11449 92 St.). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund (10720 101 St. Edmonton, AB T5H 2S3), or to the Salvation Army (9618 101 A Ave. NW Edmonton, AB T5H 0C7).
