Raleigh Haynes Hollifield, 83, of McKinney Mine Road, Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, July 12,2006, at his residence. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Walter and Ginny McFalls Hollifield. He was an avid hunter and member of Mt Mitchell Bear Hunting Club. He worked until retirement in construction work and was a life long farmer. In the Little Switzerland community, he was a neighbor in good standing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nadine Burnett Hollifield, five brothers, and two sisters. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons, Kenneth and his wife, Sharon of Spruce Pine, NC: Jerry and his wife, Carol of Charlotte, NC; Danny and his wife, Betty of Little Switzerland,NC: daughters, Nancy Vance and her husband Jerry Vance of Spruce Pine, NC; Brenda McKinney and her husband, Mike of Little Switzerland, NC: Ten grandchildren; 15 greatgrand children, and sister, Charlotte Batchler of Yancey County, NC. Funeral services for Raleigh Hollifield will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, July 15, from Chesnut Grove Batist Church with the Rev. Vernon Buchanan and the Rev. Homer MUrdock. Jr. Officiating. Interment will follow in the Burnett Cemetery, Pallbearers will be grandchilden. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm until 8:30pm Friday, July 14, 2006, at Webb Funeral Home, Memorials may be made fo Hospice of Mitchell County. Webb Funeral Home of Spruce Pine is serving the Hollifield family.
