Mr Foster and son Harold were on their way to Alzada from Priest River ID, where they spent the winter, for spring work. Mrs Foster had accompanied her daughter, Fay Rainey, to Seattle from ID, and planned coming on from there. Mr Foster was taken ill when he and Harold reached Ekalaka and he was placed in the Berry Hospital. His condition becoming worse, C K Putnam took him to Miles City, where, on 28 March he submitted to an operation for a ruptured ulcer, and he passed away the following Thursday. The community was greatly saddened by his death. Ralph B Foster was born 14 July 1894 at Battle Ground IN. He was 47 years, 10 months old at the time of his death. With his parents he came to Alzada in 1901 at the age of 7. He had spent 71 years of his life in the Alzada vicinity. His schooling was received at the Five Mile and Alzada schools. 28 March 1917 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Willsie of Aladdin WY. Six children were born to this union: Everett, Ola Mae and Wesley preceding their father in death. Surviving deceased are the widow, two sons: Ray of Amarillo TX and Harold of Alzada MT; one daughter, Mrs Fay Rainey of Seasttle WA; his mother, Mrs Elizabeth Foster of Spearfish SD, three sisters: Mrs Dent Dodd of Spearfish SD, Mrs Verda Dorsett and Mrs Irene Butcher of Seattle WA; four brothers: Roy and Clifford of Alzada MT, Earl of Reedsport OR, and Clarence of Tacoma WA; one grandson Wayne Rainey and several nieces and nephews. Mr Foster will be remembered by his many friends as a kind and generous neighbor, one always willing to help where help was needed.
