Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca with Pastor Neal Anthony officiating. Burial was in the Silver Ridge Cemetery in rural Ponca, Nebraska. Ralph was born on April 03, 1919, in rural Newcaslte, Nebraska, the son of Carl and Martha (Rahn) Stark. He grew up in the Newcastle/Ponca area where he was a farm laborer. He served in the Army durning World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he married Mildred Heidy on April 18, 1945 in Ponca. Ralph farmed and then was a custodian at Ponca High School. Maildred passed away on October 16, 1960. Ralph married Betty (Sherman) Harder on July 20, 1963 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was a member of the American Legion Post 117 in Ponca and also a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. Ralph was a very kind, soft spoken gentle man who loved spending time with his family, as well as fishing, hunting and playing cards. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Ponca; 10 children, Vivian and husband Alan Kunkel of Moville, Iowa, Thomas and his wife Carlene Stark of Ponca, Nebraska, Virginia and her husband Terry Poulsen of Hornick, Iowa, Tony and his wife Anne Stark of Ponca, Nebraska, Kathy Thompson of North Sioux City, South Dakota, Joni and her husband Don Merical of Jackson, Nebraska, Cheryl and her husband Darrell Roland and Tammy and her husband Kenton Book of Ponca, Nebraska, Kevin and his wife Teri Harder of Dakota City, Nebraska, Deanna and her husband Mark Hughes of Ponca, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren, Mike, Steve, Susie, Angela, Tara, Erin, Zach, Matt, Nate, Andy, Seth, Michelle, Curt, Cory, Bryce, Nikki, Daniel, Scott, and Jeremiah; 9 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Blaque, Morgan, Zain, Caden, Ryan, Isaac, Emma and Jordyn; 4 sisters, Eunice Garabrandt, Marie and her husband Lawrence "Bud" Yetts and Freda Warchol, all of Omaha, Nebraska and Donna Kiser of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
