Several days ago he went to St. Joseph hospital and had a slight operation performed, the removal of pus from one of his lungs, which seemed to bring relief and it was believed that he would make a good recovery. A blood clot on the brain developed and another operation was performed Friday. His serious condition followed pneumonia. Mrs. Hugh Crawford, Mrs. Dan Hauber and L.G. Crawford went to St. Joseph Friday when word came of the sudden change. DEATH NOTICE: Hiawatha Daily World - Monday, February 3, 1919 Ralph Daniels died in St. Joseph hospital Saturday night, Feb. 1, following a serious operation from which he did not regain consciousness. Several weeks ago, Mr. Daniels had an attack of influenza, followed by pneumonia. Pus developed in one of his lungs and he was taken to St. Joseph where it was removed. He apparently made a good recovery from the operation and relatives and friends believed that he would soon be himself again. Last Thursday complications set in and surgeons decided that the only chance of recovery was the removal of a piece of a rib. The operation was performed but Mr. Daniels did not rally. He was born in Hiawatha in 1892. In late years he had lived in California where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Daniels, and 4 brothers and 4 sisters reside. About a year ago he returned to Hiawatha and took a job as brakeman on the Grand Island local. His wife, whom he married in 1913, was Miss Pearl Jones. The father is on the way to Hiawatha and funeral arrangements will not be made until his arrival. Ralph Daniels was a kindhearted boy, industrious, and leaves a host of friends.
