Funeral services, conducted by Walter Metcalf, Pastor of the Congregational Church of Hampton held last Wednesday afternoon in the Congregational Church in Chapin. Ralph C. Davenport, one of the known and most highly respected citizens of the community who had been in feeble health for many years and past peacefully away at his home on Monday October 31. Davenport, one of the known and most highly respected citizens of the community who had been in feeble health for many years and past peacefully away at his home on Monday October 31. Interment was made in the Chapin cemetery. Mr. Davenport was born September 1848, at Lansingburg, New York where he grew to manhood. He came West in 1871 locating at West Liberty, Iowa, and spring of 1872 moved to this area and engaged in farming near Chapin for several years and then moved to the village and for 27 years held the position of postmaster there, retiring his post on account of poor health about 2 years ago. He was a dependable citizen, a man of Truth and veracity, and in his active years was very influential in behalf of the interests of the community where he lived. He lived a long and peaceful life and departs mourned by all who knew him. He was United in marriage to Miss Mary Smith, at Hampton, on the ?? day of December 1876, and to them three children were born to whom with their mother are left to survive. The children are Frank Davenport, cashier of the Geneva savings bank, of Geneva Cecil davenport, of chapin, and cloudy hatch, the latter having proceeded her father to the great beyond. He is also survived by one brother Frank Davenport, of San Diego, California, and a sister, Mrs. something Hayes, of Marshalltown. Franklin County Recorder November 9, 1921
