Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Ralph R. Dressler was born June 03, 1918, at Raleigh, the son of John and Matilda (Kopp) Dressler. He attended school in Raleigh, worked on his parents' farm, and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the summers of 1935 and 1936. He married Katherine Leintz on February 09, 1937. They farmed near Brisbane for two years, and then owned and operated a grocery store in Raleigh for two years. They moved to Bismarck in 1941, where Ralph worked for Piggly Wiggly and the National Tea Company. Ralph started work for Western Auto Parts as a jobber salesman, covering Bismarck and southeastern North Dakota. In 1957, he opened a Western Auto parts affiliate, the United Auto Parts Store on Front Avenue in Bismarck. Later, he became a member of the Board of Dirctors of Western Auto Parts Inc. and the Dayton Warehouse Inc. He retired from the auto parts business in 1981, but continued to serve on the North Dakota Highway Users Conference. After retirement, Ralph devoted his time to his family, grandchildren's sports events, and to participate in benevolent fraternal work. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Elks, and the Eagles. Ralph was very active with the Knights of Columbus, and was named Knight of the Year in 1988. He was an usher at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, and Eucharistic Minister, and a longtime supporter of St. Mary's Central High School. He became a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America in 1946. After serving a number of leadership positions at the local and regional level, he was elected to the Supreme Board of Governors of the UCT for the United States and Canada in 1983. As a leader in the UCT and particularly in the International Special Olympics, he performed charitable services for many causes. Ralph is survived by his wife, Katherine; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tillie and R. Jay Johanneson, Sacramento, California, B. J. and Noel Mohberg, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Bonnie and Jeff Schuchard, Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dressler, Sacramento; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four brothers, Lambert, Lou, Al, and Butch; and two sisters, Peggy Leintz and Rose Friesz. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved son, John. We, his family and friends, have been fortunate to have shared Ralph's life with him. He was a strong leader, yet a kind and generous man, with a special talent in telling a joke or a story. he was loved dearly and respected widely and we will miss him very much.
