"Bookie" Crook, 80, prominent Lancaster architect, died Friday at 12:30 p.m. in his home at 250 Kanawha Dr., following a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; also, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Crook was a lifelong resident of Lancaster. His great- grandparents, maternal and paternal, were pioneers in the settlement of Fairfield County. He graduated from Lancaster High School and Wilson Engineering School, Boston, Mass., in 1910. 800 Projects - Having worked on over 800 projects in Ohio, his most recent projects of note include Lancaster Masonic Temple, remodeling of Lancaster City Hall, Fairfield County Court House, Morgan County Court House and jail, new welfare office building, new Fairfield County Jail and many fine residences in Lancaster, plus numerous schools and civic projects throughout the state of Ohio. Mr. Crook was a charter member and Fellow of American Registered Architects (FARA) and a member of the Ohio Society of Architects. He was the first fee architect for the Southern District of the Federal Housing Administration in 1934 for four years. A member of the First Presbyterian Church, he had been a former member of the board of trustees. He was a charter member of the Lancaster Rotary Club, organized in January, 1918, (William Gesling is now the only living charter member). In 1943, he served as president and had previously served as secretary in 1925-26 and treasurer in 1929-30, and recently was club historian. Past President - Crook had served on the Board of Directors of Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and was a past president. Fraternally, he was a member of Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council and Commandery, York Rite, 32nd degree Scottish Rite and the Aladdin Shrine. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, 2 p.m., from the A. E. Johnson Memorial Funeral Home, Baltimore. with Dr. Whitney M. Trousdale officiating: interment in Forest Rose Cemetery.
