Description	:	SABETHA, Kan.- Ralph E. "Mac" McCord, 88, Sabetha, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at a Sabetha hospital. Mr. McCord was a toll collector with the Missouri River Bridge in Nebraska City, Neb., later worked for the Morton House Cannery and the Nebraska City Police Department. He drove a truck for Wynn Oil and was transferred to Sabetha in 1951, and worked as dispatcher until 1952. He became duty officer for the Sabetha Police Department and served the community as Chief of Police from 1960, until he retired in 1976. He served as a volunteer for the ambulance service for 25 years. Born June 30, 1911, in Otoe County, Neb., Mr. McCord was a graduate of the Nebraska City High School. Mr. McCord served in the Army from 1942, to the end of World War II. Mr. McCord was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sabetha, Nebraska City High School Alumni Association, Kansas Peace Officers Association, National Peace Officers Association of America, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7285, of Sabetha. He was married To Rachael P. Smith until her death in 1957. On Dec. 19, 1960, he married Dorothy C. Wells. She survives of the home. Mr. McCord also was preceded in death by his parents, Israel G. and Nan E.; and a brother, Lloyd. Additional survivors: a son, Charles Wells, Thornton, Colo.; a daughter, Janet K. Beaulieu, St. George, Utah; a brother, Howard, Nebraska City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services: Tuesday, Popkess Mortuary Chapel, Sabetha, Kansas.
