Description	:	Mr. Ralph Gilmer "Tom" Ayers, 82, of Mount Airy, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 6, 1928, in Carroll County, Va., to the late Dewey and Ella McMillan Ayers. Mr. Ayers was a self-employed small engine repairman and a Christian. He also formerly worked for the Cross Creek Country Club. Read More	Mr. Ralph Gilmer "Tom" Ayers, 82, of Mount Airy, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 6, 1928, in Carroll County, Va., to the late Dewey and Ella McMillan Ayers. Mr. Ayers was a self-employed small engine repairman and a Christian. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Ann Davis of Atlanta, Ga., and Toni Lynn Brantley and husband Jim of Aiken, S.C.; sons and daughter-in-law, Ralph Gregory Ayers of the home and Michael Gilmer Ayers and wife Nancy of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Monica and husband Archie Wood, Zackery Ayers, Caroline Ayers and Katie Brantley; great-grandchildren, Blaine Nicholson, Logan Wood and Davis Ann Wood; and sister, Bernice Mabe. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by brothers, Clinton and Otis Ayers. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove with interment to follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy.
