Ralph's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Payne, immediately left for that place as the information stated the injury was critical. On arrival at Harlan they found the injured boy in the hospital receiving the best of medical attention but the doctors held little hope for his recovery as he sustained a bad fracture of the skull. He failed to regain consciousness and passed away Thursday morning at o'clock. According to eyewitnesses his motorcycle hit some small obstacle on the paving, skidded and threw him to the side. His head hit the curbing and he was picked up as dead and coroner called. When this officer arrived, he found Ralph was still breathing and rushed him to the hospital. The injury was so serious, however, that little hope was held for his recovery and he passed away early Thursday morning. Ralph G. Payne, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Payne who live a few miles west of town. He was born February 26, 1910, at Geneseo, Illinois. When about two years of age his parents moved to Coon Rapids and it was here that Ralph grew up and received his schooling. A couple of years ago he went to Colorado and last fall entered the mechanical division of the flying school at Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a natural born mechanic and intended to follow up this line. Sunday he returned for a visit with his parents and grandmother and it was while on his return trip to the school that the fatal accident occurred. Ralph is survived by his parents, and two sisters, Ruth and Nellie, his grandparents and many friends. Funeral services will be held at Coder's Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The service will be in charge of Rev. Wingard.
