Description	:	Ralph Kahler was born to Henry Phillip and Anna Mae (Kleider) Kahler on July 21, 1920, and passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the age of 91. He was the youngest of three children, all boys. He attended Tilden High School in Tilden, NE, and graduated in 1938. Read More	Ralph Kahler was born to Henry Phillip and Anna Mae (Kleider) Kahler on July 21, 1920, and passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the age of 91. He was the youngest of three children, all boys. He attended Tilden High School in Tilden, NE, and graduated in 1938. After graduation he worked for his father in his father's hardware store and also part-time for a mortician. He entered the Army in 1942 and had basic training at Camp Crowder, MO. While on leave, he married his high school sweetheart, Imogene Cornett, on January 3, 1943. Shortly thereafter he was sent overseas. He was transported on the Queen Elizabeth to Scotland, by train to Sheltingham, England, and finally to Versailles, France, where he worked as a supply specialist under General Eisenhower's Command. After finishing his tour, he returned to the states via the ship General Anderson, and after nine days at sea, arrived in New York. He took the train from there to Kansas, where he was honorably discharged. After returning home, he again worked for his father and also in a grocery store. He and Imogene had their first of three children, Terry, born on June 11, 1947. In the fall of 1950, Ralph was offered a job managing the Crossroads Market in Winner, SD, and accepted the position. On April 18, 1951, the second child, Bill, was born, and on August 1, 1955, Tim was born. Ralph managed the Crossroads until 1963 when he accepted the manager position at the Outlaw Trading Post, also in Winner. He worked there until his retirement in 1980. He was a life member of both the American Legion Clem Mortenson Post 169, and the VFW Post 4674. He is survived by three sons, Terry, Winner, SD, Bill (Starr), Rapid City, SD, and Tim (Louise), Garfield, MN; seven grandchildren, Gina (Justin) Day, Winner, SD, Sherry Kahler, Rapid City, SD, Mike (Anna) Kahler, Belle Fourche, SD, Don Kahler, Spearfish, SD, Stacey (Jeff) Schlim, Craig, CO, Shauna Kahler, Longmont, CO, and Stephanie Kahler, Rangley, CO; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Imogene, his father, Henry Kahler, his mother, Anna Kahler; and two brothers, Donald and Detlef Kahler. Visitation will be Sunday, August 14, with a prayer service, at United Methodist Church. Services will be Monday, August 15, at the church. Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.
