He was an employee at John... Read More	Obituary From “The Ottumwa Courier,” Wednesday, March 3, 1999: Ralph Martin OTTUMWA – Ralph K. “Pepper” Martin, 78, of 602 E. Finley, died at 10:30 p.m. March 1, 1999, at Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield. He was born on June 5, 1920, in Ottumwa to John Lee and Virginia Wilcox Martin. He married Maxine Collier on Aug. 25, 1940. He lived in Ottumwa all his life, except from 1973 to 1987, when he lived in Arizona City, Ariz. He served with the Navy during World War II. He was an employee at John Morrell & Company for 36 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary of Arizona City, Ariz., and Ralph Jr. or Kirkland, Wash.; a daughter Deborah Martin of Ottumwa; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; three sisters, Virginia Menuis, Janet Wendell and Myrtle Parker of Ottumwa; and two brothers, Raymond Martin of Ottumwa and Robert Martin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mike and Lee Martin; and a sister, Opal Bergmier. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Shaul Cemetery, the Rev. George King officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. A memorial has been established to the family.
