Petet, son of Ben and Nona Bruner Petet, was born near Comstock March 28, 1917, and passed away July 1, 1980, after being hospitalized two months in the Veterans Hospital in Omaha with cancer. He received his education in the Sargent Schools, graduating in 1937. After graduation, he served as a clerk in the Gambles Store until 1940, at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until October 1945, when he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. On June 8, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mable Lewis at Smith Center, Kansas. To this union was born two daughters and one son: Pamela, Sharon, and Jerry. After returning from the service, he owned and operated a business in Comstock, later moving to Tekamah where he farmed until 1965, when he moved to Uehling where he was employed at Hillside Dairy until illness forced him to leave in April of this year. He was a member of the L. Noble Lund American Legion Post No. 196. Survivors include his wife, Mable; children, Mrs. Lawrence (Pamela) Hancock of Fremont, Mrs. Roger (Sharon) Sohl of Hooper, and Jerry Petet of West Point. Grandchildren, Scott, Chris, and Tyler Hancock, Susan, Kim and Tara Sohl, and Jeffrey Petet; two brothers, John of Pierre, S.D., Lonzo (Bud) of Sargent; two sisters, Mrs. Murl (Fern) Amos of Sargent, and Mrs. Clifford (Ethel) Carr of Las Vegas, Nevada; two aunts, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Funeral services were held at Sargent on July 5, 1980, with the Rev. Leslie Lewis officiating. Pallbearers were Donald Coslor, Jay Buckbee, Bill Morse, Robert Perrin, Albert Brass, and Howard Goble. Military graveside services were conducted by the Benhart Klapal Post #104 with burial at Douglas Grove Cemetery near Comstock, Nebraska.
