Description	:	El Dorado, Kan. — Ralph Lee Cowles, 84, of El Dorado, died March 4 at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Ralph was born on March 24, 1927 in Wichita, the son of Edgar Andrew and Elizabeth (Thompson) Cowles. After attending high school, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. Read More	El Dorado, Kan. — Ralph Lee Cowles, 84, of El Dorado, died March 4 at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment following in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Ralph was born on March 24, 1927 in Wichita, the son of Edgar Andrew and Elizabeth (Thompson) Cowles. After attending high school, he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He started working for KG&E in 1951 and was an equipment operator when he retired in 1985 after working for the company for 34 years. He enjoyed building things out of steel and restoration of antique machinery. He also enjoyed farming and doing things in the out of doors and working the land. He spent all his life in this area except for 14 years when he made his home in Pittsburg, Kan. On Feb. 26, 1949, he and Ruth Arlone Knox were married in El Dorado. They were married for 59 years before she died on Dec. 1, 2008. Those who survive include his children, Don Cowles of Andover, Gary Cowles of Wichita and Barbara Evenson of Augusta; grandchildren, Julie Tipton of Augusta, Greg Evenson of Goddard and Nikki Cowles of Andover; great-grandchildren, Abby Tipton, Garrett Tipton and Emma Tipton, all of Augusta; sister, Grace Paige of Winfield; and his twin sister, Helen Hutchison of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a brother, Alan. Memorials to his memory for Meals-On-Wheels may be left with Carlson Funeral Home where friends may call on Wednesday.
