Description	:	Ralph Leo Bushaw Ralph Leo Bushaw, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Regency Care Center in Monroe, WA. He was born July 31, 1916 in Grand Forks, ND to Isidore and Sophia Bushaw, and grew up there with an older brother Raymond and younger sister Doris. Read More	Ralph Leo Bushaw Ralph Leo Bushaw, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Regency Care Center in Monroe, WA. He was born July 31, 1916 in Grand Forks, ND to Isidore and Sophia Bushaw, and grew up there with an older brother Raymond and younger sister Doris. He received a Catholic education and graduated high school from St. James Academy in 1934. As a teen, he enjoyed singing and playing hockey and football. Ralph worked at various jobs prior to WWII. He joined the Marine Corps in February of 1942 and was trained as an airplane mechanic. He served in the Pacific and during his service, he was awarded the Sharpshooters Medal, two Bronze Battle Stars, and a Presidential Unit Citation for action in the Northern Solomon campaigns. He was honorably discharged in 1945, and returned to Grand Forks. Ralph worked for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads and enjoyed a long career in railroading, starting out as a fireman stoking engines and eventually becoming an engineer. He served a four- year term in the early 1960s as a Chairman for the Firemen's Labor Union, which he took pride in. He retired in 1976 out of Everett, WA. Ralph married Lillian Rose Miller in 1948 and they shared a life together for 53 years, raising six children, Grant, Sue, Leo, Nicky, Greg, and Renee. The family lived in North Dakota and Minnesota from 1948 to 1969 when they moved to Lake Stevens, WA and remained. Ralph was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Snohomish, WA. He enjoyed many years of active involvement in the Knights Of Columbus through the Everett Council and rose in the organization to serve terms as District Deputy. He enjoyed attending meetings of the Retired Rails for many years, as well as the monthly gatherings of the 39ers at St. Michael's where he could be relied on to bring his famous coleslaw. Ralph is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian who died in April of 2001; and his youngest son, Greg who passed away June 7, 2011. He is survived by Grant Bushaw and his wife Michelle of Lipan, TX; and their children, Chad, Casey, and Courtney; Sue Telgenhoff and her companion Ron Peterson of Snohomish; Leo Bushaw of Lake Stevens, WA; Nicky McKenzie and her husband Darryl of Vancouver, WA; and their children, Mary and Gina; Gregory Bushaw's children, Scott, Caitlyn, and Nicholas of Monroe, WA; Renee Bushaw-Brown and her husband Garrett of Richland, WA; and six great- grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish, on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Recitation of The Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Chapel. Joint funeral services for Ralph and his son Greg will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1512 Pine Avenue, Snohomish, with burial following at G.A.R. Cemetery in Snohomish. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Regency Care Center in Monroe for their loving and attentive care. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the National MS Society, 192 Nickerson Street, Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98109. Ralph loved his family. In the days preceding his death, he talked of the family gathering and how nice it was going to be for us all to be together. It was the family's belief that once he understood all his children were safely situated and his son Greg released from this life, he could permit himself to leave.
