Funeral services will be Wednesday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Bryant with the Rev. Sue Grinde officiating. Burial will be in the East Bethania Cemetery, rural Erwin. Ralph Lowell Noem was born Nov. 2, 1927, to Julius and Alvina (Lilleskov) Noem at Erwin. He attended Hartland Township rural school through the eighth grade, attended high school at Erwin and graduated from Bryant High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946 and served for one and one-half years. He married Shirley Ann Peckenpaugh Oct. 26, 1952, in Bryant. They briefly lived in Sioux Falls and then moved to the Bryant community where he operated a blacksmith shop until 1960 when he then began farming. After retirement, he traded in his Minneapolis Moline tractor for a John Deere garden tractor. He was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant, the Bryant American Legion Post 37 for 34 years, Garfield Township Board, Bryant Cenex Board, the Bryant School Board and VFW Post 3269. He enjoyed being with his family, playing cards, watching high school wrestling and tending to his community garden. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Noem of Bryant; five daughters, Tamera (Mel) Koppang of Edwardsville, Kan., Monica (Rodney) Stormo of Hayti, Nancy Smith of Sioux Falls, Bonnie Noem of Lake Preston and Chelie (Dennis) Sweeney of Hayti; one son, James Noem of Volga; one brother, Curt (Virginia) Noem of Independence, Ky.; four sisters, Norma Lutz of Cresent Springs, Ky., Myrt Collins of Florence, Ky., Joyce Litz of Sioux Falls and Millie (Herman) Hotchkiss of Humbolt; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
