Description	:	Ralph Nieuwsma ,96 passed away Thursday September 27, 2018 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Bismarck, North Dakota. Ralph was born July 30, 1922 to Ed H and Adriana “Jenny” (Van Soest) Nieuwsma on the Home Sweet Home Farm 6 miles south east of Strasburg. He was the tenth of 11 children. He attended a one room school house and graduated from High School in Strasburg in 1940. After graduation he attended Hansons Mechanical Trade School in Fargo. Ralph then began farming with his brother Peter during the summer and spent winters in Seattle working for Boeing aircraft. Ralph married Eleanor (James) on December 27, 1951 and they lived on a farm 10 miles northeast of Linton ND for a short time before purchasing and settling on the Fairview Farm located 5 miles south east of Strasburg. It was there that Ralph and Eleanor would spend the next 63 years Farming and Ranching and raising 5 children; Kenneth, (Twins) Diane & Donna, Alan (Al) and Bonita (Bonnie), he was very proud of their accomplishments. Ralph was active in his community and church. He served as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School teacher of the Strasburg Reformed Church, Harding Township Board Clerk, United Produce Creamery board and the Strasburg Public School Board. He enjoyed music, visiting, attending his grandkids sporting events, word search puzzles and watching the Minnesota Twins baseball games. After his retirement he remained on the farm helping son Kenny until moving to Valley View Assisted living in Bismarck in 2014, where he sang the meal prayer. Ralph is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 67 years, son Kenny (Cheryl), three daughters, Diane (Ron) Van Boven, Donna (Jim) Domke, Bonnie (Darin) Synhorst; son, Alan (Julia); sister-in-law, Angie Nieuwsma, 15 Grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Mathew Van Boven; all 10 of his siblings, Hette, Annie Verhoeven, Maurice, Nettie Heitbrink, Peter, Augusta Roos, Clarence, John, Donald and Irene Wester.
