He was born to Donald Ray Petty and Barbara Jean Heeren (Shea) in Alamosa, Colo. He was born to Donald Ray Petty and Barbara Jean Heeren (Shea) in Alamosa, Colo. Ralph left Alamosa in the late '80s with his wife, Lisa (Shaffer) and children, James and Kendra, to become a co-owner/operator for Hostess Distributing in the Delta/Montrose area. He and Lisa divorced and in the late '90s; he moved to the Sugar City area, where he worked first for Rocky Ford Feedyard as a feed truck driver and then the private railroad. The railroad job took him back to Alamosa around 2004, where he continued to work until he went to work for Valley Meat. Ralph continued employment there until July 2013 when he suffered a blood clot on his spine that left him paralyzed. He passed away due to complication from pneumonia and sepsis. Ralph was quite the joker and was always up for a good laugh. He enjoyed being around family and friends. He is survived by his son, James (Terri) Shaffer, Sanford, Colo.; daughter, Kendra Petty Menges of Pueblo; and three grandchildren, Eugene, Loretta and EmmaLei; four brothers, Larry Petty, Cheyenne, Wyo., Ronald Duncan, Montrose, Colo., Robert (Linda) Petty, Sugar City, Colo., Carl Heeren of Eureka, Nev.; one sister, Donna Mathre, Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Jimmy Duncan; sisters, Janet Hotz and Phyllis Beautista; his parents and grandparents. Memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. on Feb. 1, 2014, at the Elks Lodge in Alamosa, Colo. Burial to be at a later date. Condolences may be sent to James Shaffer, 21425 C.R.
