Mr. Monger had not been well for a number of years but he had been able to continue his usual activities around his home and office. He became seriously ill on Feb. 4 and was removed to the hospital last Saturday. A son of the late John H. Monger and Amanda Susan Showalter Monger, he was born Feb.4, 1888, in the North River Depot community east of Mt. Crawford. He attended the public school at Mt. Crawford and graduated from Bridgewater College with the class of 1907. He moved to Harrisonburg in 1922 and founded R. S. Monger Coal and Building Supply Company. This business was incorporated in 1935 with Mr. Monger as President and with his two sons W. K. and John H. Monger serving with him in the firm of R.S. Monger and Sons, Inc. Mr. Monger was a man of honesty and integrity. He possessed a kind and friendly personality and was an industrious and energetic person. These qualities won for him the admiration and respect of all with whom he came in contact and made him unusally successful in his chosen work. He had a most of friends. Mr. Monger was a devoted husband and father and a good friend. He was a member of the Chicago Avenue Mennonite Church and of the Men's Sunday School Class of the church. Following his graduation from college and prior to coming to Harrisonburg, Mr. Monger served as a rural mall carrier for 11 years. On May 31, 1916, he married Miss Llllye Kaylor of the North River community, who survives. Besides his wife he is survived by five c h i l d r e n : William K. Monger, John H. Monger and Mrs. Joe (Peggy) Miller, Jr., all of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Leon (Dr. Unity) Powell of Covington; and Mrs. Donald (Anita) Crawford of Charlottesville. He also leaves 11 g r a n d c h i l d r e n; and three sisters, Mrs. Valley Hammer and Miss Florence Monger, both of Elkton; Mrs. Wllda Harner of McGaheysvllle: and three brothers, Joseph W., Charles D., and Benjamin C. Monger, all of Elkton. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30.from t h e Chicago Avenue Mennonite Church. His pastor, the Rev. Harold Eshleman will conduct t h e services, assisted by the Rev. W. M. Lockett, Jr. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. The body is a t the Lindsey funeral home where it will remain until Tuesday morning at 8:30 when it will be taken to his late home. 264 South High St., where a brief service will be held prior to leaving for the church. The Rev. I. S. Long will conduct the services at the home. Members of t h e Men's Class of the Chicago Avenue church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Relatives and active pallbearers are asked to meet at Mr. Monger's late home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock for the service there. The active pallbearers are asked to meet at t h e church at 2:15. Active pallbearers will be Harold R. Swecker, Norman L. Taylor, Paul E. Rhodes, Curtis S. Bradley, Ralph W. Crowe and Joe J. Hayden. The family requests that flowers be omited.
