Before moving to Valparaiso he had been a long time resident of Chattahoochee, Fla. Ralph was born May 29, 1926 near Mayo, Fla. and lived there until he was 17 years old when he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a combat veteran of World War II. Read More	1926 - 2008 Ralph Vernon Calhoun, age 82, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 in Valparaiso, Fla., where he had resided since Sept. of 2006. Ralph was born May 29, 1926 near Mayo, Fla. and lived there until he was 17 years old when he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a combat veteran of World War II. Ralph believed that the most significant events in his life were his marriage to Lois Oliver, the birth of his son Ralph Vernon Calhoun Jr., his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his personal savior and the opportunity he had to serve the LORD as a member of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. His father and mother, Arthur T. Calhoun and Pearl Priscilla Calhoun, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Oliver Calhoun; a son, Ralph Vernon Calhoun Jr.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Susanne Legg , Amy Estelle Espy , Jonathan Arthur Calhoun; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey Grace Legg, Madden Ella Legg and Travis Price Espy. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family very much. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Chris Reid and his family, Dr. Connie Richardson and Covenant Hospice for their care and compassion. Family visitation will be at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home Chapel in Sneads, Fla., Wednesday, Aug. 27. Graveside services and interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Jackson County, Fla. on Thursday at 10 a.m. Published in the Northwest Florida Daily News on 8/27/2008
