An autopsy was to be performed today to determine the cause of death.. He was born on May 1, 1915 in Girard, Pa., a son of Troy and Maud (Miller) Fillinger. In 1934 he was graduated by Union High School, Girard, and then studied at The Defiance College from which he received a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Mr. Fillinger started teaching in 1940 in the North Richland-Adams Township and for a time was the basketball coach of the Jewell High School. At Tinora High School, successor to Jewell, he was history teacher and driver education instructor. On May 1, 1943, he was married to Anna Margaret Lero who survives. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Maud Fillinger, Girard; two sons, Larry J., student at Ohio State University, and Troy, a student at Bowling Green State University; and two brothers, Arthur E., Denver, Colo., and Kenneth H., Girard. Mr. Fillinger was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church; Omega Masonic lodge No. 564, F. and A. M.; Defiance County and Ohio Education Associations; Jewell Volunteer Fire Department, and The American Legion, Jewell. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on July 20, 1942 and was discharged as a first lieutenant on August 12, 1943. He served in the European Theater, mostly in France. Callers will be received after 7 o'clock tonight in the Mast and Mock funeral home where last rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, with Dr. Paul J. Acker, St. Paul's Methodist minister, officiating. The burial will be in Independence cemetery.
