Born in South Thomaston, March 14, 1911, he was the son of Edward and Ada Shand Hopkins. He began his education in South Thomaston and was a 1930 graduate of Rockland High School. Later they became partners and lobstered off the coast of... Read More	Obituary for Randall Hopkins SOUTH THOMASTON - Randall R. Hopkins, 97, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Quarry Hill in Camden. Born in South Thomaston, March 14, 1911, he was the son of Edward and Ada Shand Hopkins. He began his education in South Thomaston and was a 1930 graduate of Rockland High School. In 1936 he married Arlene Makinen in Rockland. The couple made their home in South Thomaston their entire married life. As a young man Randall went to work as a stern man for Ralph Rackliff. Later they became partners and lobstered off the coast of South Thomaston together. Active in town affairs for more than 19 years, he served as Tax Collector for over ten years and three terms as First Selectman. Mr. Hopkins was a life member of Knox Lodge of Masons No. 189, South Thomaston Historical Society and was active in the Library. He was an avid golfer and a member of Rockland Golf Club. Mr. Hopkins also enjoyed bowling on several leagues. For many years Mr. Hopkins invited "the boys" over to his home and they enjoyed his homemade corn muffins and coffee together three times a week. Predeceased by his wife on July 11, 1990, Mr. Hopkins is survived by several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Hopkins' life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2008 at Peoples United Methodist Church, South Thomaston. The Revered Juni Shepardson will officiate. Interment will be announced in the spring.
