His memorial service will be Monday, May 14 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington with the Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial will be in the Wessington Cemetery. Online registry at www.kuhlerfuneralhome.com Randy Lee Walton was born Nov. 29, 1956, at Miller, S.D. to Dale and Donna (Oster) Walton. He grew up in Wessington and attended school in Wessington. Randy attended Pine City Tech, in Pine City, Minn., a school for gunsmithing and engraving.He worked in Wessington, Mitchell and Huron before moving to Pierre in 1995. His love of the river brought him to Pierre. He worked several years for Teton River Traders and then went on his own, fixing every "busted up," "missing parts," and "bent barrel" gun that came along. He was known as one of the finer engravers in the Midwest, as well as a master at making ivory jewelry. In 1999, a big white dog, Marvin, came into his life. They instantly bonded as best friends and were inseparable right up to the instant of Randy's passing. Randy often said that Marvin taught him a lot about pheasant hunting. Marvin also showed Randy how much fun just lying under a tree could be. In 2005, Randy went to work for River Cities Transit. He found more than just a job, he found a home: great people, wonderful job, and the chance to give of himself. Whether he was picking up little kids or transporting wheelchair clients, he was so happy to be able to help them get where they needed to go. Randy was a skeet shooting champion from 1990 to 1992, and missed the Junior Olympic tryouts by just a couple targets. He was an avid deer, goose, duck, pheasant, and elk hunter. Randy also loved to fish for anything. He joined the Moose Lodge in 2005 and enjoyed helping with the steak frys and all the charity events. Randy was also a certified underwater welder, as well as a great "fix anything" guy. He was baffled only by carpentry. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters in infancy. He is survived by a brother, Dennis Walton of Wessington; two sisters, Connie (Richard) Trautman of Webster and Debbie Greimann of Somerset, Texas; eleven nieces and nephews; his dog, Marvin; and many very good friends.
