She was married to Mr. Joseph R. Crees a well known resident of this county, in the year 1880, and has lived in said county ever since. She died at her home near Grand River, March 29, after a protracted illness of several months of that much dreaded disease, consumption. (NOAH) CREES Leon Reporter, Leon, Iowa April 2, 1895 The subject of this sketch was born in Monroe County, Iowa, September 30, 1856, where she lived for 24 years. She was married to Mr. Joseph R. Crees a well known resident of this county, in the year 1880, and has lived in said county ever since. She died at her home near Grand River, March 29, after a protracted illness of several months of that much dreaded disease, consumption. She leaves a husband, relations and a host of friends to mourn her death. She was converted at the early age of 14 years and lived a constant Christian life. She died as she lived. The last words she was heard to say were "good-bye, good-bye, I'm going to rest." We need not mourn as those that have no hope. The funeral was largely attended, services being held at the home, conducted by the writer. The remains were laid to rest in the Funktown Cemetery to await the coming of the Lord and resurrection of the just. 'Tis hard to the tender cord, When love has bound the heart; 'Tis hard, so hard to speak the words, That we forever part. Dearest loved one we have laid thee, In the peaceful grave's embrace; But thy memory will be cherished, Till we see thy Heavenly face. --Rev. G.J.
