Description	:	Mr. Ray George Ellis of Breton, Alberta passed away in the Rimbey Long Term Care on Thursday November 19, 2015 at the age of 91 years. Dad was born on July 13, 1924 at Morningside, Alberta near Lacombe. He was the 3rd child born to George and Olga Ellis. Ray grew up in the Breton area and continued to live there until 2003. He worked in lumber camps and... Read More	Mr. Ray George Ellis of Breton, Alberta passed away in the Rimbey Long Term Care on Thursday November 19, 2015 at the age of 91 years. Dad was born on July 13, 1924 at Morningside, Alberta near Lacombe. He was the 3rd child born to George and Olga Ellis. Ray grew up in the Breton area and continued to live there until 2003. In Dad’s early years he worked for other farmers, doing harvesting. In 1946 he married the love of his life, Janet Robb. Together they raised four children. His family was everything to him. He worked in lumber camps and road construction for oil companies. Ray spent fourteen years as a telephone company technician. He was a 4-H leader for several years. Dad worked at Breton, Warburg and Winfield buying hogs, lambs and calves. In 1964 he was proud to be a member of the Ellis family ball team. They played on July 1st at Breton Sports Day. I think they came in second place too. He coached minor ball and was an umpire for seventeen years. Dad and Mom did janitorial work at the Breton Hall including making ice for curling, which he took part in also. One big highlight of Dad’s life was that he trained sheep (upto 6 at a time) and miniature horses to drive, sometimes together too. In 1967, Dad won a trip to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto from CFCW. When the sports flame came to Leduc, he got to hold it as a volunteer. He organized horse shoe pitching tournaments and evening pitching at Funnell. In 1970 he started floor curling which he really enjoyed. One night he even got an 8 ender. Seniors fastball was another sport he participated in . He loved music and organized bands to go to lodges and hospitals to entertain. Dad also sang in a church choir for a few years. He entered the agricultural fairs in the area. Another big highlight at Christmas time was the opportunity to be with Mrs. Claus. He loved every minute of it. Dad always loved to be with people. He also loved Breton. Ray is survived by one daughter; Elizabeth (Marvin) Long, two sons; Elmer (Lorraine) Ellis, Tim (Barb) Ellis, one daughter-in-law; Dixie (Allen) Taylor, eleven grandchildren, five great grandsons one great granddaughter, four brothers; Alvin (Marion) Ellis, Lloyd (Jean) Ellis, Iver Ellis, Ron (Gloria) Ellis, one sister; Grace Guevin, one sister-in-law; Kathleen Ellis. Ray also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Ray was predeceased by his parents George and Olga Ellis, his loving wife of 66 years Janet, two sons; Dale Ellis, David Ellis, one infant grandson Dalwood Ellis, two brothers; Ernie Ellis, Cecil Ellis and one sister; Wilma Colby. Funeral services will be held from the Breton Community Centre on Monday November 30, 2015 at 1:00 PM with Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Interment will follow in the Breton Cemetery.
