Funeral services were on November 1 at Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Jim Garrett officiating. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park with inurnment in the Kimball Cemetery. Ray was born September 6, 1913 in Belgrade, Neb. to Wilber Sylvester and Ethna Hazel Medbery. He grew up in central Nebraska with twin brother Roy Herold. He entered the army November 18, 1941 and received a medical discharge on October 28, 1942. He married Martina Byrd June 17, 1943 in Huntington, WVa. In 1944, they moved to Kimball where he farmed south of Kimball for many years. He helped raise two of his grandchildren, Kathlene May and Roy Martin Medbery II. Family members were always welcome at the farm where there was often a house full. He was a member and a deacon at Oak Street Baptist Church. When he retired, he moved into Kimball and then to Scottsbluff. In Scottsbluff, he joined the Bethel Baptist Church. He moved to the Veteran's home in 1997. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Roy Martin and Tammy Medbery of Scottsbluff; daughters and sons-in-law: Janice Joann and Jim Garrett of Laramie, Wyo., and Dorothy May and Shannon Smith of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepdaughter and son-in-law: Elnora and Tom Culek of Kimball, Neb.; twin brother Roy Herold Medbery of Greeley, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Martina; grandson Roy Martin Medbery II; great grandson Zackery Garrett; two brothers: Marion and Orville; and sister Hazel Jenson. He will be deeply missed by family and many friends in and out of the veterans home.
