Description	:	Ray Leslie Way was born in Surprise, Neb., Feb. 19, 1936, to Lucille Irene (Harris) and Clarence Wayne Way. He was the eldest of six children, Willard Wayne (Bill), Darlene May, Clarence Lynn (Butch), Sara Sue and Lee Roy (Shorty). He married Ernestine Barker in June 1957, and together they had two children, Michael Wayne and Cynthia Ann. Read More	Ray Leslie Way was born in Surprise, Neb., Feb. 19, 1936, to Lucille Irene (Harris) and Clarence Wayne Way. He was the eldest of six children, Willard Wayne (Bill), Darlene May, Clarence Lynn (Butch), Sara Sue and Lee Roy (Shorty). He married Ernestine Barker in June 1957, and together they had two children, Michael Wayne and Cynthia Ann. He married Sandra Jane (White) Dillon on Nov. 1, 1986, and was step father to Tammy, Jesse, Patricia and Michael. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lucille, his wife Sandra, his youngest son Michael Dillon and (by the span of only twelve hours) his brother Clarence "Butch." Left to mourn Ray are his longtime companion, Jackie Smith Selby and family of Seymour, Iowa; his siblings Bill Way and wife Judy of Mead, Neb., Darlene Jens and companion Ken Schaffer of Champion, Neb., Mary Anne Way of Wauneta, Neb., Sue Meyers of Champion, Neb., Lee Way and wife Mary Joe of David City, Neb.; his children Michael Way and wife Janice of Victoria, Texas, Cynthia Way of Cheyenne, Wyo., Amanda Cross and husband David of Lamar, Neb., Tammy Edyvean and husband Doug of Watertown, Wis., Belinda Way of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jesse Dillon and wife Renee of Denver, Colo., and Patricia Dillon of Evergreen, Colo.; 18 grandchildren: Scott Way, Ashley Way, Shauna Farris, S. Gene Smith, Andrew Tipton, Stephanie Stolz, Brittany Morris, Steven Way, Grace Edyvean, Olivia Edyvean, Elijah Edyvean, Brenda Way, Brian Fulciniti, Angeliece Dillon, Kyla Dillon, Colton Dillon, Sheyenne Anderson and Colby Dillon and 17 great grandchildren. Ray served his country in the U.S. Army in active service from March 1955 to Feb. 1960 and Ready Reserve ending in Feb. 1963. In 1961 he went to work for Greyhound Bus Lines as a diesel mechanic for 30 years. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing while he lived in Wyoming and regularly stocked the family freezer with wild game and trout. He pursued his love of horses by raising Appaloosas for a number of years. He belonged to Cheyenne Moose Lodge 257. He was an avid CB radio enthusiast and, in addition to belonging to a local club, he spent many enjoyable hours meeting new acquaintances long-distance over the airwaves. After his retirement in 1991 he moved back to his home state and worked for Kent Yaw Farms in Champion, Neb., where he drove truck and helped with the harvest. Wife Sandra passed away in 2007 and Ray was reunited with Jackie through Facebook. Ray and Jackie relocated to Iowa where he remained until his death. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be placed at the family plot in Crete Cemetery. Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Crete Cemetery, rural Champion, Neb., with Vicar Jake Berger officiating and full military honors. Graveside services will be held in conjunction with services for his brother Clarence "Butch" Way.
