The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 28, at 2:00 PM at the Bible Baptist Church in Columbus with Pastor Robert Walker officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until service time all at the church. Ray Louie Koch was born November 30, 1929, in Stanton, Nebraska, to Louie and Esther (Bauermeister) Koch. He grew up on a farm near Stanton, attended Stanton County grade schools, and graduated from Stanton High School in 1947. Ray farmed for a few years before enlisting in the United States Air Force on September 18, 1951. He was honorably discharged on September 17, 1955. On April 27, 1952, Ray was united in marriage to Marjorie Tech in Stanton. Marjorie traveled with Ray to his military posts and their first child, Steven, was born while they were stationed in West Palm Beach, Florida. After Ray completed his military service he returned to Stanton to begin farming. Due to poor crops his first year back, Ray moved the family to Columbus in 1957. Three more children; Sandra, Michael, and Jonathan, were born the following years. Ray worked in construction for Walter Gehring and various other construction companies, and drove milk truck for Harlan Keyes. In 1973 Ray started his own business, Koch Excavating, with a 5 yard dump truck and a John Deere crawler. Ray was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher for several years. Ray is survived by: Wife – Marjorie Koch of Columbus, NE Son – Steven (Dianna) Koch of Columbus, NE Daughter – Sandra (Donald) Wright of Columbus, NE Son – Michael (Shirley) Koch of Columbus, NE Son – Jonathan (Stephanie) Koch of Columbus, NE 19 Grandchildren 29 Great Grandchildren Brother – Frank (Elaine) Koch of Columbus, NE Sister – Carolyn (Ray) Haddock of Norfolk, NE Many nieces and nephews Ray was preceded in death by: Parents – Louie and Esther Koch Sister – Ruth Koch Ray enjoyed being “Grandpa Ray” to many others who were not of the immediate family.
