They attended school in sheridan and ella in Grandon and Sheridan. They were married in Virginia City, Montana July 29, 1919. They have seven children: Lawrence, Harry, Dale, Wayne, Donald and Douglas, Twins, and an only girl, Ella Rae, Lawrence is retired and lives in Sheridan; harry died in January 1978; Dale and Douglas work on the ranch; Don lives in Elko, Nevada; and Ella Rae is married and lives in Missoula where she teaches part time; Wayne teaches in Dutton, Montana. Ell does not have the time or words to relate all the joys and heartbreaks they have experienced during their years of marriage. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, July 29, 1969, and era which started at the end of a major war, took them through the depression, another world war and now the man on the moon. Their life is best described by such words as stability, persistence, hardwork, individual responsibility and faith in mankind. They raised their family of seven children and participated in the community life of Ruby Valley. Except for a brief go at mining in Butte and at the Tamarack in 1919 and 1920, ranching proved to be their life's work. After four years working on various ranches around the Ruby Valley they purchased the old Henry Thomas Ranch and settled down to a job that has lasted forty-three years. During these years Ella took time out from continuous chores of caring for the seven children and participated in the work of the Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Pay in the same determined fashion served many years on the Sheridan School Board, the County Fair Board and the Rainbow Board. He has been chairman of the cemetery committee for many years and is a member of the Kiwanis Club. They built a new home on their land near the highway and moved there in 1946. Ray and Ella have been married sisty-two years this year in July. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July 1979 at a picnic in the Mill Creek First Camp with one hundred fifty people attending. Relatives came from Idaho, Washington, California, Indiana, Alaska and many parts of Montana. To date they have twenty-three grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Ray Elser died April 1983.
