Description	:	VETERAN--WORLD WAR II Ray O. Burton, a long-time resident of Abilene, returned to his Creator on February 6th 2015, following a brief illness. Ray is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy Staley Gay Burton, of Abilene; two daughters, Juanita Dimmick, of Crosby, North Dakota, and Joyce Cates, of Clinton, Missouri; one son, Dwayne, of Phoenix, Arizona; Eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Born in Huron, South Dakota, on July 5th, 1924, Ray soon moved to Schuyler County, Illinois, where his family weathered the Great Depression, and Ray graduated from Brooklyn High School. He was raised a Methodist, but later favored the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Ray served in the U.S. Army in WW II, first in the mounted cavalry and later in the mechanized armor division. From those experiences, Ray’s hallmark became his great sense of values and family. He moved to Abilene at the end of WWII. Ray was a longtime member of the Eagles and the Elks. By vocation Ray was a construction supervisor and by avocation a furniture maker. He was also a consummate outdoorsman. Ray and his family made several moves between Abilene and cities in Arizona. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Abilene City Cemetery With Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-7 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. Friends may call anytime after 9 A.M on Sunday. The family has suggested donations to Hospice of Dickinson County in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be sent online to www.martinbeckercarlson.com
