Raymond A. Wattnem, son of John and Regina (Lunden) Wattnem, was born May 5, 1901, at Estelline, S.D. He grew up here and received his education at Pleasant View School, District # 27, Deuel County. After his marriage to Julia Rogness on July 3, 1942 in Astoria, S.D., they farmed the family farm near Estelline until retiring in 1971. For 29 years ray was involved in the trucking business, hauling grain and livestock for local farmers. Upon retirement, they moved into Estelline. He entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in January of 1990. Ray died there on Friday, February 25, 1994 at the age of 92 years, 0 months, and 20 days. He was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. Raymond is survived by 2 sons, Gary and his wife Vicki of Mason City, Iowa, Stephen of Champaign, Ill.; 1 daughter, LaDonna Rasmussen and her husband Michael of Crown Point, Ind.; 8 grandchildren; 1 brother, Melvin and his wife Ruth of Hoodsport, Wash.; 5 sisters, Cecelia Bowar of Faulkton, S.D., Claire Baird of Huron, S.D., Pearl Sletten of Lincoln, Neb., Eva Olofson and her husband Art of Golden Valley, Minn., LeNore Yap of Edina, Minn.; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Julia on October 25, 1988, his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Geise Funeral Chapel, Inc. * * * Raymond purchased the family farm in Estelline, South Dakota, from his parents, John and Regina.
