He attended the St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from high school in 1948. He entered the Army in February, 1952, and served overseas a year in the Korean conflicts. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, the church choir and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Janice; one daughter, Kaleen, 5; two sons, Phillip, 3 and Eugene, 1; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stessman; eight brothers, Marcus of Panama, Iowa, Rev. Gerald of Des Moines, Iowa, Joseph, Donald, Leo, Ronald, Gail and Vern of Earling, Iowa and three sisters, Dolores of Omaha, Nebraska, Rita and Helen of Earling, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, August 17, 1959, at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s Church in Earling, Iowa. The Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by his brother, Rev. Gerald Stessman, Msgr. Bissen and Rev. Wingert. Burial was in the St. Joseph’s cemetery. The American Legion was in charge of the Military Funeral. Pallbearers were Jack Sonderman, Joe Wilwerding, Joe Kramer Jr., Larry Gross, Ronald Gross and John Assman. From The Harlan News Advertiser (Harlan, Iowa) – Tuesday 01 Sep 1959
