His father Gaele Bakker was in 1885, 1888, 1891 and 1897 a baker, in 1886, 1893 and 1895 a baker's hand. In 1899 Riemer, his parents and six siblings immigrated from the Netherlands to Whitinsville, Massachusetts, U.S.A. In May 1910 Raymond Baker (19 years old, born Holland, farm laborer), his father Gaile Baker (51, Holland, laborer at a machine shop), his mother Katherine Baker (46, Holland), his siblings Higadaline (17, Holland, house worker for private family), Richard (14), and Katherine (13, Holland) were living in a rented house at Costle Hill Road to Hambidge Line Fouglass Ave in Northbridge Town, Worcester County, Massachusetts. According to this concerning Census 1910 they all immigrated in 1902. In 1911 he was working in a cotton mill, but he disliked both the work and standing in one spot the whole day to do it, so after reading an article in De Wachter extolling the virtues of the Canadian province Alberta he decided to emigrate again. In April 1911 he moved with his parents and several other Dutch immigrant families to the city of Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province Alberta. In February 1913 Raymond, his parents and sister Katie moved to the Dutch agrarian settlement of Neerlandia, located about 60 miles northwest of Edmonton, where they had bought in July 1912 two quarters (320 acres) of land. Raymond and his father Gaele kept cattle on their homesteads from the first year they were there. On May 1, 1915 the membership of the Christian Reformed Church of Raymond, his parents and two siblings was transferred from Edmonton to Neerlandia, where recently a new church of logs had been built. About 1925 Raymond was one of the first in Neerlandia to buy a tractor. He also owned a T-Ford later on. On September 23, 1934 Raymond Baker married in Neerlandia at the age of years the 17 years younger Della Anema, who had Dutch parents too. Soon hereafter his parents retired, went to live near their daughter Katie, Raymond took over their quarter, and the newly weds moved into their house. They had in Neerlandia the following five children: * Florence, August 8, 1935; * Catherine, November 3, 1936; * John, May 27, 1938; * Gilbert, February 9, 1940; * Dorothy, September 4, 1941. Raymond Baker died in January 1944 in Neerlandia suddenly of a heart failure at the age of about 53 years. His widow Della died in May 1993 at the age of 84 years.
