He was retired from the State of Georgia... Read More	UNION - Raymond "Ray'' Carroll, 79, of 125 Carroll Hollow Road, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 at his home. A native of Carroll County, Ga., he was the husband of Cathleen Bailey Carroll of the home and son of the late Benjamin Franklin Carroll and Mattie Lou Herrin Carroll. He was a member of Mount Joy Baptist Church, the Mount Joy Masonic Lodge No. 203 in Kelton, the Yaarab Shrine Temple and Scottish Rites of Atlanta, Ga., and was past patron of Eastern Star Chapter No. 492 in Dallas, Ga. He was retired from the State of Georgia Building Authority and was also the former owner of Carroll Heating and Air in Macon, Ga. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 2nd Armored Division (Hell of Wheels), and the 82nd Armored Reconnaissance BN., (Benning to Berlin). He served as a Medic and on June 6, 1944 he landed in Normandy and he also participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Jo Ann Sheffield of Acworth, Ga., Linda Honeycutt of Cartersville, Ga., and Sue Kelley of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Buford Carroll of Marietta, Ga., and Dewitt Carroll of Powder Springs, Ga.; two grandchildren reared in the home, Tracey Carroll Ragan and Teri Carroll Pierce, both of Macon, Ga.; seven additional grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was first married to the late Ruby Jordan Carroll. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mount Joy Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Joy Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Allan West. Burial, with Military Honors and Masonic Rites, will be held at Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family is at the home, 125 Carroll Hollow Road, Union. Memorials may be made to Mount Joy Baptist Church, Building Fund, 657 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353; or to Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, c/o Eddie Wilson, Drawer F, Lockhart, S.C. 29364. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
