Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Sioux City Baptist Church. Rev. James Pointer will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, with military honors conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Raymond Carl Korff was born on March 10, 1927, to Herman and Eva (Neuhalfen) Korff in Coleridge, Nebraska. He was born into a large family with 8 brothers and sisters. He was raised on a farm and learned the benefit of hard work. In January 1945 he chose to enlist in the US Navy. Because Ray was under age, his dad had to go to the recruiter's office and give permission. He went through boot camp in San Diego and was stationed in Guam from September 1945 to July 1946. In June 1947, after his time of service in the Navy, Ray moved with a friend to Le Mars. After a few short-term jobs, he was fortunate to get hired at Iowa Public Service where he was employed for 41 years. When he retired he was a gas construction foreman. Ray Korff and Barbara Wick had their first date on September 19, 1947; he often mentioned that he never went with anyone else after that day. Ray gave Barbara an engagement ring for Christmas 1948, and they were married on March 31, 1949. Ray prized the value of hard work and took his responsibility as provider and protector of his family very seriously. He was an example of integrity and hard work and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of Sioux City Baptist Church for over 40 years. His faith and personal trust in Jesus Christ was the bedrock of his life. For years he sang in the choir and could always be counted on to fix anything at the church that needed attention. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing ping pong, bargain hunting, and of course golf. Even in these later years when he could barely walk from room to room and was legally blind, he and his good friend Doc golfed almost every day. Ray is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Barbara; and all five of their children, Randall and his wife Toni of Chicago, IL, Sandra and her husband Rev. Ron Ruark of Tustin, MI, Natalie and her husband Dr. Gary Hall of Meyersville, TX, Rebecca and her husband Clifton Vance of Fort Worth, TX, and Stephanie and her husband Lanny McManigal of Sioux City, IA; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and 6 of his siblings. He will be greatly missed.
