He was born March 21, 1935 in Ashtabula, the son of the John C. and Dorothy (Tickner) McCarty and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. A 1954 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 before being honorably discharged. Read More	Raymond E. McCarty March 21, 1935 - Nov. 16, 2016 Raymond Edward McCarty, age 81, of Ashtabula passed away Wednesday, November 16 at Jefferson Healthcare. He was born March 21, 1935 in Ashtabula, the son of the John C. and Dorothy (Tickner) McCarty and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. A 1954 graduate of Ashtabula High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 before being honorably discharged. He married Kathryn Doxsie on February 27, 1960 and together they shared over 56 years of love, memories, and spirited debates. He was employed by the Ashtabula County Highway Department and R.W. Sidley’s as a truck driver and later worked as the sexton for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. He also worked part-time for Pinney Dock and as a custodian for the Buckeye Local Schools. A member of the Second Congregational Church for the past 10 years and previously St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where he served as a youth advisor, he had few interests or hobbies because he was usually working at least two jobs and always looking to make a better life for his family. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn McCarty; sons, Timothy (Teresa) McCarty of North Canton and Kevin (Melissa) McCarty of Canal Winchester; grandchildren, Shawn, Madeline, Leyna, and Margaret; and two sisters, Jane Caruso of CA and Doris Jenks of Geneva. He was preceded in death by his parents; A service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 25 at the family gravesite in Saybrook Cemetery, SR 45, Ashtabula. Rev. Christopher McCain, Pastor of Second Congregational Church, will officiate. DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula is handling the arrangements.
