Description	:	Raymond Eugene Petty was born July 12, 1937 in Lewis, IA, Washington Township, to Carl and Luella (Acree) Petty. The family moved to a farm near Elliott, IA where Ray attended school. In 1948 Ray moved to a farm five miles southwest of Clarinda and attended Lee Grove School. Read More	Raymond Eugene Petty was born July 12, 1937 in Lewis, IA, Washington Township, to Carl and Luella (Acree) Petty. The family moved to a farm near Elliott, IA where Ray attended school. In 1948 Ray moved to a farm five miles southwest of Clarinda and attended Lee Grove School. At the age of 14, Ray worked for Amos Wagner helping with farm work and in 1955 Ray graduated from Clarinda High School. On November 16th, 1957 Ray and Ramona Clarice Jamison were united in marriage. They lived in Shenandoah for seven years and then lived on a farm southwest of Clarinda for 33 years. As a couple, they raised two children and in 1974 built their home there. Ray worked for Tyler's Coca Cola in Clarinda and McClellan dime store in Shenandoah. Upon returning to Clarinda, Ray worked for Lisle Corporation for 15 years in tool & die. He then worked for Clarinda Herald Journal and Printing & Graphics for 12 years. At Ray's home, he had a tool shop where he repaired farm machinery at night and on the weekends for many of his neighbors. Ray later worked for Clarinda Schools driving a school bus for 12 years retiring at the age of 60. Ray & Ramona traveled, working as campground hosts in Missouri and Virginia for two years. They spent their winters in Texas and Arizona for several years and returned to Iowa in the summers where Ray helped Myron Nothwehr on his farm. Ray liked to do carpentry work, remodeling several houses that he and Ramona lived in. He liked to go to garage sales and auctions, and enjoyed walking and visiting at the Lied Center. He loved to watch the Clarinda A's baseball games and drive their bus. Ray entered into rest October 12th, 2013 at Goldenrod Nursing home following a series of surgeries. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ramona; daughter Sherri Holmes & her husband Danny of Des Moines; son Steve Petty & his wife Teresa of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren: Rebecca & Aaron Holmes of Des Moines, Paul & Christopher Petty of St. Joseph; brother Larry Petty & his wife Deloris of Arvada, CO; sister Wanita Shipley & her husband Jim of New Boston, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl & Luella Petty. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Card officiating. Interment will be at Summit Cemetery, Yorktown, Iowa.
