Denahy, of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. Raymond Fredrick Denahy was born Feb. 18, 1925, in rural Grand Mound, the son of James and Minnie (Henzen) Denahy. Ray married Althea Ryan Sept. 23, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Grand Mound area all of their married life. He was a member of Ss Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, and the Knights of Columbus. Ray lived his life for his family and was happiest when he was with them. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed cards (it was very hard to beat him) and his farm. Ray was great supporter of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbor kids sporting events. He was always willing to help those in need. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Althea; his children, Mary Kae Hintz and special friend, Steve Bierman, DeWitt; Denise Gregoire and her husband, Chuck, DeWitt; Bob Denahy, Wheatland, Iowa; Gayle Dolan, DeWitt; 16 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Preceding Ray in death were his parents, a granddaughter, Jana Palmer, a son-in-law, Kevin Dolan; two brothers, LaVerne and Marion, a half-sister, Bernadette Buxton, and three half-brothers, Francis, Eugene and Leonard. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 2 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005. Parish Vigil Service 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Ss Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Fr. David Brownfield officiating. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound. Pallbearers will be Chad Hintz, Jonathan Gregoire, Kurt Denahy, Ryan "Kip" Denahy, Billy Dolan and Jim Grell. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Anderson, Don Burzlaff, Eugene Andresen, Todd Westphal, Tom Banowetz, Mark Delever, Tom McNamara and Dave Palmer.
